Our recent report, “Climate Responsibility in Tourism,” emphasizes the urgent need for the travel sector to incorporate climate justice into its operations.
It outlines the consequences of ignoring this critical aspect and offers a framework for creating a more equitable industry response to climate change.
In a previous study, “Tourism’s Future: Vision for 2030 and Beyond,” we laid out a roadmap for how the industry can grow while drastically cutting emissions.
Another influential report, “Destinations Under Pressure: The Hidden Costs of Tourism,” calls attention to the unspoken economic and environmental burdens that tourism places on popular destinations.
We are always pushing the conversation forward, with upcoming research set to explore ways to distribute tourism’s benefits more evenly across communities.
Collaborative Solutions
Tourism is a vast and interconnected industry, involving governments, businesses, and local communities. We bring together these diverse stakeholders to create a shared vision of how tourism can be better managed for both people and the planet.
One of our proudest accomplishments is co-developing the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, a global initiative led by the UN that promotes collaboration and provides resources for tourism organizations to reduce their carbon footprints.
Additionally, we co-founded the Future of Tourism Coalition, working alongside other leading organizations to help shape the future of travel. This coalition offers practical tools and strategies for destinations to manage tourism’s impact responsibly, focusing on climate action, sustainability, and community well-being.
